Album Review; Artist : October ; Album : Defeat The Question[2010]

A fast upcoming band within the country which makes music ranging from post-grunge to funk to blues rock to psychadelic  from track to track within the same album. There is no lack of tempo changes, insane drum rolls, mode transitions and killer effectmanship. They use a Gibson Les Paul Traditional and a Fender Stratocaster and its confusing because while hearing you’re sure of which guitar is being heard but they know how to swap those signature tones incorporating effects which need time to figure out. Coming down to the drums, they’re fucking tight and innovative. There is always a stereotype way of drumming to a particular beat and then there are beats and rolls which can’t be predicted, those are the ones I’m talking about here. ‘Down’ goes as the name says, its deep, dark, mysterious a sort of a trance. ‘On The Wall’ for the blues and rhythm heads, and a solo over 2 minutes which is old school depiction and some good vocal harmony in progress. ‘October’ the song which would be apt while driving down to pub to get into the mood with dominating bass, GNR type build up to the solo which is the bends and the runs we all love. “God Overdosed On One Prayer Too Many ” the song that reeks of energy where these guys are like we show how capable we are of changing tempo , flanging and wahing away, Shanty’s drumming takes the cake in this one. ‘Getafix’ is a track with a happy go lucky intro , they show how to combine a Les Paul and Stratocaster to fill up the sound, this is the mood swing song as you keep listening and the 2 solos prove that point the best. ‘ Stop Look Go’ is vocal harmony expression using different backgrounds. ‘Dendrophilia’ is slow metal hinting some blues with some off-time drumming and off and on scale vocals, the solo is an exhibiton of why we have a left and right split for audio systems , imba effects. ‘Myriad’ is where Amitabh steps in and out of the spot light as his spacey vocals flow, soft but serious selection of notes and its got fun breaks which are adored during live performances, all the cymbals and their respective different areas of sound can be clearly heard. Bright future for these blokes is what it seems to be. Gigging the country away at a very young but not so tender age. Kudos guys.
