Song Perception : Lonely Boy ; Artist : Black Keys ; Album : El Camino

Mood : Pepped

They define themselves with a modern old school Alternative Pseudo Indie Garage Rock Genre. Their rhythms are groove meddled riffs with low gain hot tube amps, if my ears could smile they would have. Lonely Boy is a song for swinging and crowd chanting together. Dan Auerbach (guitars/vocals) tells a semi-sad tale singing this song depending which side you look at it from, Patrick Carney (drums) just chills and puts on his modjo 😛 with the sticks . I adore their concept, it’s something like we make music like a generation before ours, for a generation before yours, dress like them and you gotta love us for who we are and we’re here to stay that way. It seems genuine, attitude free where intended and reeks of freedom.

Well I’m so above you
And it’s plain to see
But I came to love you anyway
So you tore my heart out
And I don’t mind bleeding
Any old time to keep me waiting
Waiting, waiting

Chorus:
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Well your mama kept you but your daddy left you
And I should’ve done you just the same
But I came to love you
Any old time you keep me waiting
Waiting, waiting

Chorus:
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
I’m a lonely boy
I’m a lonely boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting

Song Perception : Passenger(feat. Maynard) ; Artist : Deftones ; Album : White Pony

Mood : Crafty

Its nothing short of a monumental alternative/stoner metal track in living. Every aspect of it has charisma to it , they fit in so beautifully structured from intro to bridge to chorus to breakdown. Lyrically without much knowledge I would give most of the credit to Maynard compared to Chino Moreno just cause there’s that vibe he gives and there’s always a gigantic question mark he leaves in mind whether the actual meaning is what we’ve figured it out to be and that he owns flawlessly. Moreno and Keenan display impeccable chemistry of mellow power. It’s a marvel how its been engineered to intrigue .Hats off to Frank Delgado who brings it on with his turntables and keys which seem irrelevant but are totally integral in the sound. Chi Cheng on bass and Stephen Carpenter have such distinct parts to play at different tempos at the same time, its almost a choice what you choose to listen to. Abe Cunningham on drums is the cerebellum and the spinal cord at the same time with simple and vulpine drum work. The most mind fucking part of this song is that no matter how many times you’ve heard it , the sound can’t be recollected unless its being heard .

Here I lay
Still and breathless
Just like always
Still I want some more
Mirrors sideways
Who cares what’s behind
Just like always
Still your passenger
Chrome buttons, buckles and leather surfaces
These and other lucky witnesses
Now to calm me
This time won’t you please
Drive faster
Roll the windows down
This cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees anything
I’m your passenger
I’m your passenger
Drop these down and
Put them on me
Nice cool seats
There to cushion your knees
Now to calm me
Take me around again
Just don’t pull over
This time would you please drive faster
Roll the windows down
This cool night air is curious
Let the whole world look in
Who cares who sees what tonight
Roll these misty windows down
To catch my breath
And then go and go and go just drive me
Home and back again
Here I lay just like always
Don’t let me go
Take me to the edge

Light Lyrics ; Artist : John Mayer ; Song: No Such Thing

Its more a scenario thing than having a deep meaning which every Tom, Dick and Harry think they’re writing. Its simplicity and a slightly simpleton tale about youth. Any mediocre soul like myself can relate to with a regretless smirk and carry on with life the next second. Carefree, at ease and groovy.

Take your life
Plot it out in black and white
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I’d like to think the best of me
Is still hiding
Up my sleeve

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
That something’s better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
just a lie you’ve got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the so called right track
Faded white hats
Grabbing credits
Maybe transfers
They read all the books but they can’t find the answers
And all of our parents
They’re getting older
I wonder if they’ve wished for anything better
While in their memories
Tiny tragedies

Song Perception : St. Patrick’s Day ; Artist : John Mayer ; Album : Room For Squares

Mood : Derailed

St. Patrick’s day if looked at from a particular perspective could be
the love song of a lifetime. How does John Mayer maintain the simple
image of being a simple’s mama’s boy and constantly underestimated regarding his
skill, charisma, creativity and feel by people who aren’t into his music. This song is so bloody dreamy
it creates memories that never existed. He did what every cliché artist
would do by taking a handful of sweet chords and putting flowery lyrics
to make it a love song but this one has soul to it, very rare to find.

Respect

for this guitar giant who can nail it at will whenever he wants
to, not just with guitars only, his at peace voice, moving lyrics and a solid and precise band as a backbone.
This track creates a desperate attempt at contemplation of an obvious kind.

the best example of the cheesy lyrics(which work in this case ) are:

“In the dark, on the phone
You tell me the names of your brothers
And your favourite colours
I’m learning you
And when it snows again
We’ll take a walk outside
And search the sky
Like children do”

-John Mayer

Song Perception: Sleep Of No Dreaming ; Artist : Porcupine Tree

Mood : Smouldering

Psychadelic spacey sounds have ruled out every other element of sound i could think of to describe
this marvel of a track. Richard Barbieri one of the mightiest gods of looping especially live takes
on the entire band on the other side of the planet. Technical capabilities, engineering, creativity,
simplicity in sweet note selection are all produced together in a fantasy package. If after hearing
this it doesn’t make sense that Porcupine Tree is a group whose art is not meant to be reproduced then
you have to be an imbecile of epic proportions or deaf is a possibility. It is one of the few groups which
can not make bad music, they just don’t know how to.

Song Perception : Simple Boy ; Artist : Karnivool

Mood : Spiral Fall

If mentally you have ever visualised and experienced yourself falling into a gradual spiral, this is the song that speaks for you, it reaches a point where you’re
suspended in free space and have motion in smooth jerks(oxy moron :P) where it makes you flustered looking for a synthesiser where there isn’t one at all. Effects
and emulation prodigies bring one to life with their guitars. Guiding through a dark cave with a dying oil lamp flickering to stay alive. Just from the visual ending in reverberating flamboyant echoes.

Song Perception : Themata ; Artist : Karnivool

Mood : Sweeping

The feel is from simple 4 by 4 math to intricate calculations running in front of your eyes like a matrix
which will never be understood from head to toe. The chorus is feel good but not the type which brinds a smile
to your face the kind where its quiet contentment of achieving a goal which is not huge but brings satisfaction
which I can’t explain. These baaps of effects have things to say, things we know but need to be told, not in the
form of lyrics but in a flow which is only felt through peace which we only seek to feel and not attain through
anti mundane sound of marvelling creation.
